We have done the Oregon
and Northern California
Coast twice now and still have more
to see the next time we go down there.
Let me list them as
you go North to South.
Going from Washington
to Oregon you have to go across
the Astoria Bridge
http://www.oldoregon.com/Pages/AstoriaBridge.html
After that the whole Oregon
Coast is great but here are some of
the things I would suggest. Canon Beach and Haystack Rock there. Tillamook with
the Cheese factory, http://www.tillamookcheese.com/ and the Air Museum http://www.tillamookair.com/.
All of the Oregon Coast
has so many things to see and is a great drive. To the south on the coast there
is Gold Beach
and we stayed at the http://www.turtlerockresorts.com/.
You can either camp there or they have little cottage type
mobile homes you can rent like we did. They are a little pricy, but was well worth it for us, as they have private hot tubs for
our backs, which is great after a long days ride. After that, crossing into California
I would recommend Crescent City http://www.crescentcity.org/
and the KOA there http://www.koa.com/where/ca/05102/
. After that is the http://www.treesofmystery.net/
Near Klamath California along with the Tour Thru Tree http://www.klamathcc.org/home.cfm?dir_cat=37883
. The Sky Trail Ride at the trees of mystery is well worth the time and cost of
admission and the tour thru tree is right down the road. Of course the Redwoods
comes after that. 4 miles south of Klamath is the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway. If you don’t like all the touristy stuff that
is on the regular Redwoods drive, this is a great option with some fantastic
scenery. The regular drive has some nice stuff too. The second drive through
trees, the Shrine drive through tree, is in Myers Flat California and can be
seen here along with the other trees http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/CAPHItree.html
. There are numerous state parks along the way south through the redwoods that
you should have no problem finding space to stay at that time of year. If you
are up for some VERY interesting driving to a little known place on the coast,
I would recommend Shelter Cove. It is a hair-raising 18 mile drive west from
Benbow California. It is a nice
place to visit, once, but we will never go back…lol
Our visit there was nice, but at times it was like living in a Steven
King Novel. It’s just one of those things you have to do once. After that we
reluctantly drove the 18 miles back to 101, it’s the only way out..lol, and south to Leggett
where the Chandelier Drive Through Tree is. This as far south as we got and we
are planning to do another trip south into San Francisco.
I hope this info helps and was not to boring and long…lol
